Our high school initiatives include:
Technology in Medicine Outreach Program (TOP)
A 6-12 month structure co-op placement where up to three (3) students will rotate through our research groups to gain first-hand experience in biomedical engineering. At the end of the rotation, the students will work together on a joint project with an opportunity to present their solution to a team of experts.
MedTech Challenge
This is designed as an open competition between teams from different schools involved in a design-build process. The challenge is centered around a medical or surgical theme related to medical imaging, surgical tools and/or training.

CIGITI has summer and co-op placements available for eligible students.
Thesis opportunities
Through the Institute of Medical Sciences and Institute for Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, the centre has thesis opportunities for 4th year engineering and/or graduate students.

Our surgical training initiatives include:
Research fellowship
We offer a one (1) year research fellowship in the area of technology development and clinical training for residents interested in applying for engineering methodology to clinical applications.
Applicants are expected to have completed a surgical or radiology residency.
Specialized surgical training
With the support of our clinical theme leaders, CIGITI offers a variety of minimally invasive, single port and technology-based training programs and courses. Clinical areas include: urology, general surgery, MR imaging and echocardiography.
